Matthias Fronius

Matthias Fronius (born February 28, 1522 in Kronstadt ; † 1588 ibid.) Was a Lutheran clergyman and city judge in Kronstadt, Transylvania . He was the editor of the collection of laws of the Saxons in Transylvania: Statuta or Eigen Landtrecht (Sibiu 1583), Latin Statvta Jvrivm Mvnicipalivm Saxonvm inn Transylvania (Kronstadt 1583), the codification of the Transylvanian-Saxon Eygenland law .

Fronius studied theology with Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon at the University of Wittenberg until 1543 . He then worked first as a teacher, 1545–46 as rector of the Collegium Barcense . 1545–69 he worked as a city notary and at the same time senator (until 1573). In 1573 he was elected to the office of Stadthannen . In 1588 he was elected co-judge of the sick city judge Lukas Hirscher, but died in the same year.
