Matthias Kleinsteiber (born January 5, 1978 in Meiningen ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer goalkeeping coach for Borussia Dortmund .

Career as a player

Matthias Kleinsteiber was brought in 1992 by Borussia Dortmund at the age of 14 as a youth player from Rot-Weiß Erfurt . After going through the U17 and U19, he played there from 1996 in the second team in the Regionalliga Nord. Five years later he moved to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the second division , but only played four games there and left the club after six months. In 2003 he returned to Borussia Dortmund's second team, but was then no longer active. In 2005 he ended his career as a player at the age of 27.

Career as a goalkeeper coach

Following his active career, he became a goalkeeping coach at Borussia Dortmund, initially for the U19s. After taking care of the second team as goalkeeping coach, he became goalkeeping coach of the first team for the 2017/18 season, replacing Teddy de Beer there.
