Matthias Peuster

Matthias Peuster (* 1969 ) is a German pediatrician , professor of paediatrics. Health economist (FH, SRH Riedlingen).

Live and act

After studying and doing his doctorate (1996) at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , he worked as an assistant and later senior physician in Hanover, Göttingen and at the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW in Bad Oeynhausen. In 2004 he completed his habilitation at the Ruhr University Bochum . The title of the habilitation thesis is: “Corrosion of cardiovascular implants. Implant failure or the new principle of biodegradation ”. In 2006 he was appointed director of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine at the Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic of the University of Rostock . In 2010 he became Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine in the Biomedical Science Division of the University of Chicago. At Comer Children's Hospital, he led pediatric cardiology and was director of the catheter program for congenital heart defects. In 2013, he founded the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Defects at Jilin Heart Hospital in Changchun, Jilin Province, China, and has been a professor and professor at Yanbian University, Jilin, China since 2018.

He has received several awards for his services to improving medical care for the population in Jilin Province, most recently in 2015 with the "Changbai Mountain Friendship Award".

From April 2019 to the end of December 2019, Peuster was also director of the Clinic for Congenital Heart Defects and co-director of the Center for Congenital Heart Defects at the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia, Ruhr University Bochum, Bad Oeynhausen.

He researches cardiovascular issues, in particular special aspects of implant technology . The main focus is on the development of biodegradable implants based on corrosive metals. His research, which he published in over 70 original papers to date, has resulted in several patent applications.
