Matthias Schlitte (born April 2, 1987 in Haldensleben ) is a German arm wrestler and co-commentator for the international sports broadcaster Eurosport . Due to a genetic defect ( Klippel-Trénaunay-Weber syndrome ), Matthias Schlitte was born with a stronger right arm. He took this imbalance to his advantage and opted for a career as an arm wrestler.

youth

Matthias "Hellboy" Schlitte has been part of the arm wrestling team at VfL Wolfsburg since 2004 . After several successes in various amateur tournaments, he won the German championship title in the youth class up to 70 kg in his first professional tournament. He then achieved 6th place in the same weight class at the European Championships in Gdynia, Poland.

Men's

In 2005 Schlitte switched to the men's class and took 2nd place at the German Championships in Starnberg, behind vice world champion Udo Weiß. At the German Grand Prix, Schlitte took 4th place.

At the German Championships in 2006 in Melle, he came fourth. In July of this year, Schlitte was only just eliminated in the quarter-finals at the European Championships in Budapest in the men's class up to 70 kg. At the over-the-top tournament in Mannheim in September 2006 - the Champions League in arm wrestling - Schlitte prevailed against the international competition and won without defeat. He then went to the World Championships in Manchester in the 75 kg class, but was eliminated in the preliminary round.

At the German Championships 2007 Schlitte took 3rd place and only had to admit defeat for ex-vice world champion Udo Weiß. He also won the bronze medal at the international tournament in Belgium. On September 8, 2007, Schlitte defeated Weiss for the first time in the 10th Over-the-Top tournament in Wolfsburg. The German ended up in 2nd place and was able to beat the reigning third of the world championship, Iwan Pilipenko, in the course of the competition.

In 2008 Matthias Schlitte won the German championship title in the men's class for the first time. The then 21-year-old started the competitions in Hanau on April 5, 2008 in the class up to 70 kg and won the tournament without defeat. He also won the Belgian Grand Prix, also without defeat, and came 12th at the European Championships in Norway. Since 2008 the student from the University of Magdeburg has been competing in the International Armwrestling League for the European sports channel Eurosport. In 2009 Schlitte competed in the German championship in Haltern in the class up to 75 kg and won his second title in the men's category. Furthermore, he led the team north in the Bundesliga to the team championship title and took 12th place at the world championship in Rosolina, Italy. He appeared several times in the international television series Arm Wars against the international competition.

In 2010 Schlitte won the silver medal (-75 kg) at the German championship. Due to injury, the German did not take part in the European Championship in Moscow / Russia. At the World Championships in Mesquite / USA Schlitte achieved 10th place at the end of the year (-70 kg), and together with Team Nord he won the third team title in a row.

In 2011 Schlitte renounced the German Championships and the European Championships in Gdansk / Poland because of the same injury. In July he made his comeback and won four international tournaments in a row. The German even remained unbeaten at the Grand Prix of Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. At his fourth world championship, Schlitte finished 12th in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

In 2012 Schlitte started for the first time at the Czech Grand Prix in the higher category -80 kg. The Bebertaler took silver and then won his seventh title (-75 kg) at the German championships. At the EM it was enough for 9th place (-70 kg). At the German Grand Prix, in preparation for the World Cup in Brazil, the German competed in the higher category -80 kg and won silver in the final round. At the world championships, Schlitte came in 7th among over 30 participants. In addition, Schlitte took his 9th win at an international tournament in the open category of the International Hamburg Armwrestling Cup.

At the 2013 World Cup in Gdynia he reached 7th place in the men's 70 kg class.
