Matthias Westerwinter

Matthias Westerwinter (born September 28, 1963 in Bielefeld ) is a former German soccer player . The striker played for Arminia Bielefeld and Hertha BSC .

Career

From the youth of the Bielefeld suburb club TuS 08 Senne I , Westerwinter 1978 switched to Arminia. The former German U-18 international made his Bundesliga debut as a player for Arminia Bielefeld at Karlsruher SC on June 4, 1983 . Westerwinter descended with Arminia in 1985. In the relegation second leg against 1. FC Saarbrücken , he scored the goal for the interim 1-0 lead. He played a total of 35 Bundesliga games and scored four goals.

After relegation, Westerwinter switched to Hertha BSC , but returned to Bielefeld after just one year. In 1988 Westerwinter rose with the Arminia in the Oberliga Westfalen . For Hertha and Bielefeld, he completed 80 second division games and scored 20 goals. In 1990 Westerwinter was with Arminia champion of the Oberliga Westfalen, missed the return to the 2nd Bundesliga in the subsequent promotion round. He then ended his active career. In the 1993/94 season he returned to the field for two games for FC Gütersloh .

After his career, Westerwinter worked for a few years in the rehabilitation center of his former Bielefeld teammate Detlef Schnier . Westerwinter also plays in Arminia's traditional team. Today he works for his former football colleague Efthimios Kompodietas in the INJOY Bielefeld fitness club .
