Matti Bye

Matti Bye (born July 25, 1966 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish musician and composer .

Life

Bye is the son of actress Brigitta Andersson and playwright Anders Bye .

Bye became famous for newly composed music for Swedish silent films such as Der Fuhrmann des Todes (1921) and Gösta Berling (1924). Matti Bye composed the new film music for Arte for the silent film The Kiss of Death (1916) by Victor Sjöström . However, he also works for contemporary productions such as Die Ewigen Momente der Maria Larsson (2008). In 2016 he was involved in The Hundred and One Year Old Who Didn't Pay the Bill and Disappeared .

He has been working as a live pianist for silent film productions for the Swedish Film Institute since 1989. Bye has performed as a pianist at numerous large silent film festivals, including a. at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival , the Bologna Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Sodankylä .

In 2009 he won the Swedish Guldbagge film award for the score for the Scandinavian film production Die Ewigen Momente der Maria Larsson ( Maria Larssons eviga ögonblick ).
