Matti Helminen (born August 14, 1975 ) is a former Finnish cyclist .

Athletic career

Matti Helminen won a stage in the Ronde van Vlaams-Brabant in 2000 . Three years later he became the Finnish time trial champion . In 2004 he won the general classification and a stage of the Tour du Brabant Wallon . In 2005 Helminen became a professional with the Belgian Profel Cycling Team . For this team he achieved another important time trial success in 2006 when he won the Chrono Champenois . He was also able to repeat his victory in the Finnish time trial championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012.

doping

Helminen, who lives in Belgium, tested positive for the doping agent probenecid on the Tour of Luxembourg in 2012 and was then released by his Landbouwkrediet-Euphony cycling team . The Belgian cycling association KBWB banned him for two years. He appealed against this to the Court of Arbitration for Sport .
