Matti Jutila (* 1943 ) is a Finnish mathematician who deals with analytical number theory. He is a professor at Turku University .

Life

Jutila received her PhD in 1970 under Kustaa Inkeri at the University of Turku ( On Two Theorems of Linnik Concerning the Zeros of Dirichlet's L-functions ). In 1977/78 and 1981 he was at the Mittag-Leffler Institute , in 1970 and 1988 at the Steklow Institute in Leningrad and in 1993 at the Nihon University in Tokyo . Among other things, he deals with exponential sums and the Riemann zeta function .

Jutila improved the value of the constant in Linnik's theorem several times over a bound for the smallest prime number p (d) in an arithmetic progression a, a + d, ..., a + dn (with a, d relatively prime and d <a , n any natural number) depending on d. Linnik proved in 1944 with constants c, L. The upper bounds for L (Linnik's constant) were lowered more and more over time (according to the status of 2011 to (Triantafyllos Xylouris, Dissertation Bonn 2011)), also several times by Jutila in the 1970s, so 1977 to 80.

Since 1982 he has been a member of the Finnish Academy of Sciences .

Kaisa Matomäki is one of his students .
