Wish I Was Here is an American comedy film from the year 2014 . Zach Braff was responsible as director and screenwriter, and his brother Adam Braff was co-writer. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2014. The official cinema release in Germany was on October 9, 2014.

Aidan Bloom is a struggling actor, father and husband. He is 35 years old and is looking for the meaning of his life. His children attend a private Jewish school. Since Aidan is unemployed and does not get any roles from participating in several drama castings, his father Gabe pays for the school fees. When he was diagnosed with lung cancer and he had to pay for his treatment costs privately, he cut the school fees. Aidan realizes that he can't do much with his children's school subjects and begins to teach them privately in his own way.

On April 24, 2013, director Zach Braff launched a Kickstarter campaign for his new comedy Wish I Was Here to raise $ 2 million through crowdfunding . This amount was reached after just three days. The film received mixed feedback: Of a total of 112 English-language reviews, Rotten Tomatoes rated 46% as positive. In summary, it says on the page: " Wish I Was Here comes from the heart, but offers little new in terms of content - especially if you know the previous work by director Zach Braff." At Metacritic , the film was rated 43 out of 100, based on 34 reviews.
The film was also recorded mixed in Germany. For example, the Berliner Zeitung said: " Wish I Was Here is unfortunately a cowardly film that dares nothing artistically and in terms of content", while the Süddeutsche Zeitung, however, judges: "Braff hits a nerve - because Wish I Was Here is so wonderful braced against the zeitgeist, which calls for permanent self-optimization .
