Banana Pi
Banana Pi is a single-board computer from the Chinese educational initiative Lemaker.org . Sales started in March 2014. Android , Ubuntu , Arch Linux , Debian , FreeBSD , Raspbian and the like can be used as operating systems . a. can be used. Its processor is an ARM Cortex-A7 with two cores in an Allwinner A20. In this one-chip system (SoC), the processor cores are combined with a Mali-400 graphics processor.
Although the Banana Pi is similar to the Raspberry Pi by its name, the location of the connectors and the size , there are no connections between Lemaker.org and the Raspberry Pi Foundation .
The Banana Pi is also open source and can be used as a platform to realize your own projects.
Functions
The power supply is managed by a AXP209 and can the banana pi up to 1.6 A supply. An external 2.5 ″ hard disk can be operated without an additional power supply - then a power supply unit with at least 2.5 A should be used.
Like the Cubieboard2 , the Banana Pi also relies on the Allwinner A20 as its SoC. The Linux kernel of the Cubieboard can be used on the Banana Pi with a few modifications.
The Banana Pi has a few more inputs and outputs than the Raspberry Pi: a SATA connection, a microphone input and an infrared receiver.
history
In October 2014 an extended version - the Banana Pro - was presented. It has a micro SD card slot instead of the SD card slot, a GPIO connector with 40 instead of 26 poles and an integrated WLAN module. While the Banana Pi relies on compatibility with the Raspberry Pi models A and B, the Banana Pro with its 40-pin GPIO connector is based on the Raspberry Pi models A + and B +.
Also in October 2014 the BPi-R1 ( B anana Pi R outer) was presented. It also has an integrated 4-port network switch and the option of mounting a 2.5 ″ SATA hard disk directly on it .
In 2015 the Banana Pi M2 was released based on an A31s quad-core SOC. This offers 4 USB ports, but dispenses with the SATA connection.
In 2016, the Banana Pi M2 + , based on an H3 quad-core SOC, was released. This offers 2 USB ports, but dispenses with the SATA connection.
LeMaker is, according to its own statements, the "official" manufacturer of the Banana Pi M1 and the Banana Pro. Sinovoip is the maker of the Banana Pi M2 and the BPi-R1. For many users it is very confusing who is really the "right" or "real" manufacturer, since there is also a Banana Pi M1 from Sinovoip.
