Matti Rantanen

Matti Rantanen (born February 20, 1952 in Helsinki ) is one of the most distinguished Finnish accordionists .

Rantanen learned his instrument from Lasse Pihlajamaa, among others, and studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. There he works as a professor and leader of a solo class for accordion, from which numerous well-known accordionists emerged. In 1996 the Sibelius Academy nominated him as "Teacher of the Year".

His repertoire ranges from the interpretation of Finnish folk music to works by classical and contemporary composers. On the CD Finnish Works for Accordion (2003) he is a. a. to be heard in compositions by Jukka Tiensuu , Einojuhani Rautavaara and Tapio Tuomela .
