Former Company building, today different use

The Maubacher Bleiberg was an ore mine near Horm in the municipality of Hürtgenwald , Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

In 1947 the company " Stolberger Zink " started with test drilling in this area. It was found that this was a large area with a thickness of about 20 m. Above that, however, there were 70 m of cover rock . The metal content was relatively low at around 3.5%.

Lead gloss and zinc blende were dismantled from 1948 . The knot ores (ore grains) had to be processed in a complex manner. Part of this complex can still be seen today across the county road, but is used differently today.

The annual capacity was 25,000 tons of concentrate, from which 18,000 tons of metal could be smelted.

The ore mine ceased operations in 1968. After that, the opencast mine served as a garbage dump for the Düren district.
