Marine (mountain)

The Marine is a mountain in East Timor . He is in the Suco Batara . It has a height of 1424  m . The land is considered sacred to the local Idaté . It is said to house spirits who protect the land as an army when three elders celebrate rituals at the holy sites of Susuk and Orlau to call out the "land spirits who live underground" ( idaté : larek na'in or ). This is also called “opening the country”. When a war is over, the country has to be ceremonially "closed" again. Therefore the mountain is also known as "the warrior" (idaté and tetum asuwa'in ).
