Maung Maung Kha

U Maung Maung Kha ( Burmese ဦး မောင်မောင် ခ , * 1920 ; † April 30, 1995 in Rangoon ) was a Myanmar politician. From 1977 to 1988 he was Prime Minister under General Ne Win .

He graduated from the military academy during the Japanese occupation of Burma . When the Revolutionary Council took power in the wake of General Ne Win's coup in 1962, Maung Maung Kha became a colonel secretary in the Ministry of Industry. On September 23, 1972, Ne Win appointed him to the cabinet as Minister of Industry.

After the proclamation of the Socialist Federal Republic of Burma on January 4, 1974, Ne Win resigned as Prime Minister on March 4 of the same year. His successor was Brigadier General Sein Win until he was replaced on March 29, 1977 by Maung Maung Kha.

After deaths occurred during the police evacuation of demonstrators during the increasing unrest in the country , Ne Win was dismissed as chairman of the Central Committee of the Burma Socialist Program Party on July 26, 1988, President U San Yu , who had replaced Ne Win in 1981, and Prime Minister Maung Maung Kha had to take off their hats. Successor in the office of Prime Minister was U Tun Tin until the coup of General Saw Maung on September 18, 1988 .
