The most important work by Maurice Bouguereau was the atlas Le Theater Francoys published by him in Tours in 1594 , the first ever atlas of France and thus a milestone in the history of French cartography. Heinrich IV (1553–1610) had given him the commission for this work, who was fighting for the unification of his kingdom at that time and wanted to demonstrate his power and size with this publication. This was particularly emphasized with a portrait of the king in the atlas, which was shown together with a general map of France; sometimes a sonnet was printed under the portrait instead of the card .

Le Theater Francoys contained 14 regional maps and three general maps of France, older and more recent works by various cartographers, which Maurice Bouguereau had compiled and edited. The older regional maps were by Gerhard Mercator (1512–1594) and Gérard de Jode (1509–1591), the younger ones by Jean Temporal († after 1570), Jean Surhon (↑ after 1594) and Jean Fayen (1530) -1616). The general maps came from Guillaume Postel (1510–1581), Jean Jolivet (15 ..– 1569) and Petrus Plancius (1552–1622).

In addition, Maurice Bouguereau printed and published the work Les Belles figures et drôleries de la Ligue by the writer Pierre de L'Estoile (1546–1611), probably a collection of quatrains.
