Mawsynram is a village in eastern India in the state of Meghalaya .
The village is located in the Khasi Mountains , about 65 km southwest of Shillong and 15 km west of the small town of Cherrapunji .
It is known as the place with the world's highest average rainfall. The average annual precipitation is 11,872 millimeters.
