Max Hannes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Max Johann Hannes is a German glass cutter.

Life

At the age of 14, Hannes began an apprenticeship as a glass cutter at Theresienthal's crystal glass manufacture in Theresienthal near Zwiesel. He passed the master craftsman's examination there and eventually became operations manager. When the glassworks had to file for bankruptcy in April 2001 due to economic difficulties, Hannes mobilized his colleagues to work to keep the company going. The Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation , foundation of BMW AG, became aware of the commitment and stepped in as investor and coordinator of the restart of the manufacture. Since the resumption of production in September 2004, Hannes has been working again as operations manager of the new company (Kristallglasmanufaktur Theresienthal GmbH).

The history of the labor dispute was captured in the documentary Die Unzerbrechlichen by Dominik Wessely .

On March 24, 2011, Hannes received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
