Max Ludwig Rehmann, as his full name was called, was born on January 28, 1842 at Gut Hammer near Driesen in the Friedeberg / Neumark district. His father had acquired this property in 1839 from the previous owner, Mr. Ehrenreich von der Osten . Family ties connected the Rehmann family with the legendary personality of Countess Rietz auf Lichtenow .

From 1881 Max Rehmann was a senior teacher at the Gymnasium zu Friedeberg / Nm. active. When he had to give up his education for health reasons in 1904, he moved to Landsberg an der Warthe. He used the freedom he had gained to deepen his rich historical knowledge and to open up ever more sources for knowledge of the local history. The Association for the History of Neumark gave him the chairmanship of the scientific committee and the publication of the association's publications. Time and again it was the history of the Friedeberger Kreis and its localities that attracted him and to which he dedicated his work in the writings of the association and other publications. Probably the last contribution from his pen was the one about the history of the village of Hammer near Driesen, which was printed in the Friedeberg home calendar for 1923.

Max Rehmann found his final resting place in the Friedeberg / Nm cemetery.
