Max Schlossberg
Max Schlossberg (born October 24, jul. / 5. November 1873 greg. In Liepaja , Russian Empire - SEPTEMBER 23, 1936 in Bethlehem , New Hampshire , United States ) was a Jewish-Baltic trumpet , which is an important teacher in the US was .
Life
Max Schlossberg was born in Libau in Kurland to a Jewish family. At the age of 9 he went to the Moscow Conservatory, where he was taught by teachers such as August Marquard, Franz Puttkammer and Adolph Sauer. In 1889 he went to Saint Petersburg for a short time , then to Berlin . There he learned from Julius Kosleck and played in orchestras under Arthur Nikisch , Hans Richter and Felix Baumgartner .
In 1894 he moved to the USA for the first time, where his father had emigrated a few years before. After less than a year he returned to Riga . He married there in 1902 and finally emigrated to the USA that year.
From 1910 until his death he was a member of the New York Philharmonic. In 1912 he became a US citizen.
Max Schlossberg taught many important trumpeters in the USA. He wrote a textbook and is considered one of the founders of his own trumpet school in the United States.
