Max Schneller (born January 15, 1886 in Wiltauten , East Prussia , † May 25, 1948 ) was a German SS leader, most recently with the rank of SS group leader .

In his youth, Schneller embarked on a career as a naval officer. Schneller joined the NSDAP in 1930 ( membership number 341.750). In 1931 he joined the SS (SS No. 6.659), in which he had been a member of the SS Upper Section East from 1933 and was finally promoted to SS Gruppenführer on April 20, 1943 .

From November 14, 1939 to May 8, 1945, Schneller was Permanent Deputy Leader of the SS Upper Spree Section in Berlin, ie as the de facto commander of the SS in this area. The official commander of this upper section was still, like since 1933, the Obergruppenführer Sepp Dietrich , who, however, was only able to nominally exercise this office due to his front line assignment as commander of the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler . In the further course of the war Schneller also took over the position of a higher SS and police leader with responsibility for the areas of Berlin, Mark Brandenburg and Wehrkreis III.
