Max Urlichs (* 1936 ) is a German paleontologist and geologist.

Urlichs studied geology and paleontology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1966 (on fossil management and genesis of the Feuerlettens, the Rät-Lias boundary layers and the lower Lias near Nuremberg). He was then at the TU Berlin and from 1969 at the Natural History Museum in Stuttgart . There he was responsible for invertebrate fossils from the Paleozoic and Triassic, micropaleontology and paleobotany, became chief conservator in 1987 and head of the geology-mineralogy-paleontology department in 2001. He's a professor.

He is particularly concerned with invertebrates ( cephalopods , ostracods ) from the Muschelkalk of the Germanic Triassic and the upper Triassic of the Dolomites (as well as the Jura), with biostratigraphy of the Germanic Triassic and its correlation with the Alpine Triassic .

He is a member of the German sub-commission for Triassic and Jurassic Stratigraphy .
