Maxim Alexejewitsch Batunin ( Russian Максим Алексеевич Батунин ; * July 20, 1985 ) is a former Russian natural track tobogganist . He started in a single and double-seater, took part in the 2010 European Championship and was among the fastest 20 in the World Cup three times.

Career

Batunin's first international competition was the World Cup race on February 11, 2001 in the Russian capital Moscow . He took 17th place out of 24 single-seater tobogganers who started. He did not take part in other World Cup races for a long time, but in 2004 and 2005 he started at the Junior World Championships in Kindberg and the Junior European Championships in Kandalakscha . With Vladimir Alechin in the two-seater, he achieved seventh place in Kindberg and eighth in Kandalakscha. In the single-seater Batunin took 15th place in Kandalakscha; in Kindberg he did not start in a single seater.

After an eight-year World Cup break, Batunin again took part in the two World Cup races in Novouralsk , Russia, in the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 seasons. In the 2009/2010 season he achieved places 24 and 27 out of 29 starters each. In the next winter he was able to improve a few places with places 20 and 18 out of 32 starters each. In January 2010 Maxim Batunin also took part in the 2010 European Championships in St. Sebastian, Austria. In contrast to the World Cup, he didn't start in a single-seater, but in a double-seater together with Stanislaw Kowschik . They took tenth place out of twelve rated two-seater pairs. This European championship was Batunin's last international race.
