Maxim Jakubowski (* 19th October 1944 in London ) is a British science fiction - Thriller - Adult - writers , rock music lyricist and music critic .

biography

Jakubowski was born in England in 1944 to Russian-British and Polish parents, but grew up in France. Jakubowski also lived in Italy and has traveled a lot. Jakubowski published the science fiction anthology Quasar 2 (1979) for the 37th World Science Fiction Convention in Brighton and Traveling Towards Epsilon , an anthology of French science fiction. He also contributed a short story to this anthology.

Murder One bookstore

Jakubowski worked in the book publishing business for many years, which he left to open the Murder One bookstore. It was the UK's first specialized crime and mystery bookstore. The store closed in 2009, a victim of the internet, according to Jakubowski.

His novels include It's You that I Want to Kiss , Because She Thought She Loved Me , The State of Montana , On Tenderness Express , Kiss Me Sadly , Confessions of a Romantic Pornographer, and I Was Waiting for You . His short story collections are Life in the World of Women , Fools for Lust, and American Casanova . In total, he has written over 70 non-fiction books and novels to date.

He is a regular on UK television and radio and was voted fourth Sexiest Writer of 2007 in a poll on the Crimespace website. Ekaterina and the Night was published in 2011 and combined crime with eroticism, as did his latest novel The Louisiana Republic (2018).

Jakubowski was the chairman of the Arthur C. Clarke Award for many years and is now the chairman and judge of the International Dagger of the Crime Writers' Association. He is also a member of the Crime Writers' Association Committee and a frequent commentator on radio and television. He is currently the honorary vice chairman of the Crime Writers Association.

In October 2019 he was awarded the CWA Red Herrings Award for his life's work. He also won the Karel Award for his contribution to European science fiction and the Anthony Award at the Toronto Bouchercon for Best Nonfiction Book of the Year for One Hundred Great Detectives . In 2020, he will serve as Executive Producer for Factory , based on the novels by Derek Raymond and produced by FX Network ( The Living Dead ) and Hardy, Son and Baker ( Taboo and A Christmas Carol ).

He wrote the short story Twenty Houses of the Zodiac under the pen name Adam Barnett-Foster .

Jakubowski also wrote a number of books on rock music in the 1980s.

He is also a noted critic and reviewer who wrote a crime review column for Time Out, London for 10 years and an additional 11 years for the Guardian, finishing that work in 2010. His column then switched to Lovereading online and has been with Crime Time since 2017. His non-fiction book, Following the Detectives , was shortlisted for several awards in the mystery field.

In The Guardian was founded in January 2020 announced that he was one of two authors behind the pseudonym Vina Jackson via 2010 and 20111 a series of ten best-selling romantic was erotic novels in the series Eighty Days wrote that reached the best-seller list of The Sunday Times published on several occasions and in 31 countries.
