Maximilian Peters

Maximilian Peters (born January 29, 1908 in Remscheid ; † January 30, 2001 there ) was a German concentration camp doctor and SS-Obersturmbannführer , camp doctor in Sachsenhausen concentration camp .

Life

Peters was the son of a machine manufacturer. After graduating from high school, he worked as a student trainee in industry. From 1929 to 1936 he studied medicine in Frankfurt am Main and Rostock . In June 1936 he passed the state examination. He then initially worked as an unpaid volunteer assistant in the surgical department of the municipal hospital in Remscheid . On May 1, 1937, he joined the NSDAP (membership number 3 964 775). On April 1, 1939, he became a member of the SS disposal force (No. 323 791). He then served in the SS hospital in Berlin . In the fall of 1939 he was transferred to the SS Totenkopfverband and began his service as an SS camp doctor in Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Subsequently, until January 15, 1942, he was employed as a troop doctor in the intelligence department of the 3rd SS Panzer Division "Totenkopf" . From January 15 to July 7, 1942, he was assigned to the SS medical department. From July 7, 1942 to June 25, 1943 he worked as a doctor at the gynecological clinic and midwifery school in Paderborn . From June 25, 1943 - according to his own statement - until January 1945 he was Head of Department II a (Human Resources) of Office Group D in the SS Leadership Main Office . In January 1947 he was interned in the Neuengamme camp. After his release he was ordered to Remscheid and worked there as a general practitioner. A preliminary investigation by the central office of the state justice administrations for the investigation of National Socialist crimes because of the service in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp was discontinued.
