Maximilian Wilhelmi (born February 21, 1861 in Kunersdorf , Kingdom of Prussia , † September 5, 1913 in Strasbourg , Alsace-Lorraine , German Empire ) was a German stage actor , theater director and theater director.

Live and act

Born near Frankfurt an der Oder, Wilhelmi received his artistic training from the actor and singer Wilhelm Hellmuth-Bräm from the Hoftheater Berlin. On October 1, 1880 Maximilian Wilhelmi made his debut at the theater of the West Prussian Thorn with the role of the Kommerzienrat Schneedorf in the play Der Frauenadvokat . In the next 13 years there were engagements at provincial theaters in Halle, Elberfeld, Chemnitz, Krefeld, Stettin, Nuremberg and Bremen. On October 3, 1893, Maximilian Wilhelmi was appointed director of the Strasbourg City Theater, a position he held until his death for 20 years. In addition, he worked as an acting teacher.

Wilhelmi also continued to work as an actor in his role as director and theater manager, now in the field of first character actor and in humorous character roles. His repertoire included powerful types like Nathan in Nathan the Wise , Gessler in Wilhelm Tell , Mephisto in Goethe's Faust , Philipp II, the village judge Adam in Der zerbrochne Krug , the Struve in Sudermann's Stein unter Steinen and the Winkelmann in The Butterfly Battle by the same author, as well as Shakespeare's Richard III. “He plays extremely understanding, well thought out, effectively, with great ease and naturalness and often gives references to amazing technology. He treats verse and prose equally skilfully and with his conversational speaking technique the verse almost becomes rhythmic prose ”, as Eisenberg's Fach-Lexikon der Deutschen Bühnen-Members noted in 1903.
