Maximilien Gardel

Maximilien Gardel (born December 18, 1741 in Mannheim , † March 11, 1787 in Paris ) was a French dancer and choreographer. He was a major ballet master at the Paris Opéra.

In 1742 the opera house designed by Alessandro Galli da Bibiena was opened in Mannheim, at the opening of which his father Charles Gardel , dance master of the Royal Ballet at the court of the Polish King Stanisław I. Leszczyński , was in Mannheim. Maximilien was born during this time. Maximilien Gardel's younger brother Pierre Gardel (1758-1840) was also a dancer. In 1781 Maximilien succeeded Jean Georges Noverre as ballet master (“Maître des ballets”) at the Opéra National de Paris .
