The factory premises in Köttingen

The May Holding is a company in Köttingen , a district of Erftstadt , in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia , which operates an industrial park.

General

The company was founded in 1922 as a small retail grocery store in Erftstadt-Köttingen. Through integration through the value chain , the company's founder Peter May turned the grocery store into a wholesale business and, in 1947, into a production company for spirits . The entry into the dairy business in 1949 was the starting point for the company's development into one of the leading suppliers to the German food trade. From 1952 onwards there was a coffee roastery under the roof of May-Werke, as well as a factory for the production of condensed milk cans and factories for the production of cans, snacks (from 1985 takeover of Pittjes snacks) and non-alcoholic beverages (from 1967).

In 1987 May packaging was founded with two locations in Germany (Erftstadt and Itzehoe ) as well as in Spain ( Murcia ) and Denmark ( Esbjerg ). The Felix company in Schwerte was bought in 1988. In Heerlen (Netherlands), the company took over the local soft drinks manufacturer SDI and expanded the production lines in Heerlen itself, but also in Köttingen. In 1992 a cooperation with the milk processing company Eifelperle eG in Thalfang was decided.

In addition to various production and storage halls as well as an administration building, the Peter-May-Straße site now also has three mineral water fountains that were opened between 2006 and 2010.

In the mid-1990s, the real division of the corporate parts was completed in order to give the next generation their own pillars and a chance for self-realization. The parts of the company have now been transferred to other hands, while May Holding has taken on the role of a business park operator.

In 1999 the company sold May packaging to US Can, which was taken over by Impress in 2007 , which has been part of the Ardagh Group since 2010 . Next, in 2000, the snacks division was sold. Dairy production was transferred to Hochwald Nahrungsmittel-Werke in 2002 . The beverage activities SDI, which had an annual turnover of 153 million euros, were sold to Refresco in 2010 .
