The Grafschafter Volksbank eG is a German cooperative bank in the legal form of a registered cooperative ( eG ), based in Nordhorn , the county seat of the county Bentheim . It emerged from six mergers that took place in 1968, 1970 and 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2007.

The first predecessor bank was founded on May 28, 1906 by 23 citizens (18 craftsmen, three merchants, a technician, an innkeeper) as the savings and loan fund Nordhorn eGmbH (1938 Volksbank Nordhorn eGmbH ). In the year it was founded, the city of Nordhorn had around 3,000 inhabitants. The target group were primarily craft, trade and commerce. Until 1932, the banking business was carried out in the private houses of the respective Rendanten . In 1963 the bank opened a branch in the Nordhorn district of Blanke and in 1966 in Bentheim .

On December 6, 1919 in Emlichheim the savings and loan association Emlichheim eGmuH (19 farmers, four merchants, three craftsmen) (1921 legal form in eGmbH changed in 1974 Volksbank eG) of 26 citizens founded.

Two years later, on April 14, 1921, the savings and loan association Veldhausen eGmbH (Raiffeisenbank 1954, Veldhausen-Neuenhaus 1965, Volksbank eG 1976) was established. 17 citizens were the founders (seven merchants, five craftsmen, two innkeepers, a farmer, a pastor, a mayor). On April 1, 1958, the bank opened a branch in Neuenhaus .

In Gildehaus , the savings and loan association Gildehaus eGmbH (1959 Raiffeisenbank) was founded on July 24, 1921 by ten people (two craftsmen, one merchant, five farmers, one trader, one mayor), who in 1947 also had a goods department was affiliated.

The year the savings and loan association Bentheim eGmuH was founded was 1923 (legal form changed to eGmbH in 1955, Raiffeisenbank in 1961). The establishment was decided on June 4, 1923 by 24 citizens (seven craftsmen, five teachers, four merchants, two customs inspectors, a postmaster, a hotel owner, a factory owner, a farmer, a dentist, a tax clerk).

On March 16, 1923, 44 citizens (25 farmers, four craftsmen, three merchants, three traders, two teachers, a freight expedition, a railway secretary, a station master, a postmaster, an innkeeper, a customs officer, a privateer) founded the then Spar- und Loan Fund Schüttorf eGmuH (1954 Raiffeisenkasse, 1956 changed legal form to eGmbH, 1967 Raiffeisenbank, 1976 Volksbank eG).

On July 26th 1923 the savings and loan fund Brandlecht eGmuH was founded . (1940 savings and loan fund Hestrup eGmuH, 1946 legal form in eGmbH, 1952 Raiffeisenkasse, 1958 Raiffeisen-Bank) by 14 people (twelve farmers, one pastor, one teacher). To supply the rural population, the bank expanded by opening a branch on May 2, 1955 on Lingener Strasse in Nordhorn. In January 1961 a branch followed in Klausheide and in May 1965 in Brandlecht.

The first merger in the Grafschaft Bentheim district took place in 1968 between Gildehaus and Bentheim. Both banks merged to form Raiffeisenbank Gildehaus-Bentheim eGmbH (1979 Volksbank Bad Bentheim-Gildehaus). With effect from January 1, 1969, the goods department was decoupled from the banking business into an independent goods cooperative.

Raiffeisen- und Volksbank eGmbH Nordhorn (1975 Raiffeisen- und Volksbank Nordhorn eG) was created in 1970 from the merger of Volksbank Nordhorn with Raiffeisen-Bank Hestrup.

In order to strengthen the Obergrafschaft region in the Grafschaft Bentheim district , the two Volksbanks Bad Bentheim-Gildehaus and Schüttorf merged to form Volksbank Obergrafschaft eG in 1999.

In 2001 the Volksbanken Emlichheim and Veldhausen-Neuenhaus merged to form Volksbank Niedergrafschaft Emlichheim-Veldhausen eG.

In 2004, the Raiffeisen- und Volksbank Nordhorn and the Volksbank Niedergrafschaft Emlichheim-Veldhausen merged to form Grafschafter Volksbank Nordhorn-Emlichheim-Veldhausen eG.

On June 13, 2007, the Grafschafter Volksbank Nordhorn-Emlichheim-Veldhausen and the Volksbank Obergrafschaft merged to form today's Grafschafter Volksbank eG.
