Location of Veldhausen in Lower Saxony

The village of Veldhausen is a village and parish that is over a thousand years old . Since 1970 the village has been a district of Neuenhaus in the Grafschaft Bentheim district in Lower Saxony .

history

Ev.-ref. church

The place was created as a church square for the surrounding communities of Esche , Grasdorf and Osterwald . They built the church after 1411, as the way to Uelsen was too far for many and almost not possible in bad weather. The settlement of the later village of Veldhausen was founded around the church built from Bentheim sandstone . Veldhausen only became Lutheran in 1554 and reformed from 1588. The last Lutheran pastor worked in Veldhausen until 1594.

The spelling of the place name is influenced by Dutch, hence “Veld” with V and not with a High German F. Dutch was spoken in Veldhausen as an official language until the 20th century .

On July 1, 1970, Veldhausen was incorporated into the city of Neuenhaus. This took place against the will of the city of Neuenhaus and was decreed by the Lower Saxony state parliament in Hanover.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the former municipality of Veldhausen shows a silver war tent with a golden baron's crown on a red field, in the lower part the golden shield fittings of the Bentheim coat of arms. The crown and tent are derived from the general Carl von Rabenhaupt , Baron zu Sucha. Carl von Rabenhaupt had his headquarters in Veldhausen during his campaign against the Prince-Bishop of Münster ( Christoph Bernhard von Galen ) in 1673/74.
