Jacob Courtain

Jacob Courtain , also: Jakob Courtain or Jacobus Courtain , (* around 1760 , † 1825 ) was a German organ builder.

Life

Jacob Courtain probably came to Emmerich from France . Later he settled in Burgsteinfurt. He built the largest organ works in northwest Germany at the time: u. a. in the Osnabrück Cathedral , in the Osnabrück Marienkirche and in the Oldenburg Lambertikirche . Classic French, Dutch and North German influences were combined in Courtain's construction.

A well-known student of Jacob Courtain was Johann Conrad Bürgy , who u. a. From 1782 to 1787 he built the organ of the landgrave's castle church in Bad Homburg .
