Maya Bringolf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maya Bringolf (* 1969 in Schaffhausen ) is a Swiss visual artist and works mainly in the field of sculpture . She lives and works in Zurich .

life and work

Maya Bringolf studied from 1992 to 2000 at the University of Design in Zurich and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Gerhard Berger and Ben Willikens . In the broadest sense, it deals with circuits and systems that occur, among other things, in the form of expansive sound installations with ventilation pipes and organ pipes. In a series of photo collages z. B. also brought together oil rigs and baroque organs, so that new, surreal architectures arise.

In 2019 the first works were created with perforated and flared office chairs, through the holes of which various pipes wind. Bringolf includes existential issues such as destruction and disability in her work process and thus develops sculptures. These can be both physical and systemic in nature. The range of materials used ranges from polyurethane foam to epoxy resin, ventilation pipes, organ pipes, old furniture and coats to car paint and a Harley exhaust.
