Mayfair is an Austrian band from Vorarlberg .

history

Mayfair was founded in February 1989 in Satteins by Rene Tiefenböck, Rene "Mötle" Konzett, Manfred "Little" Konzett and Mario Prünster. In the same year the first demo with the song "Narrow-Minded-Ness" and the title track "Live for the King" was created. After several small concerts Mayfair recorded the demo "Find My Screams Behind this Gate" in Basel in 1991 . In addition to numerous good reviews, Stefan Glas received the “Demo of the Month” award in the “Underground Empire”, among others.

In 1993 the band released the album "Behind" on the label "General Inquisitor Torquemado's Releases". There were also top marks in the German “ Metal Hammer ”. Stylistically, there were comparisons with bands like Warlord and Psychotic Waltz, but influences from Voivod and Fates Warning could also be heard.

In 1995 the second album "Die Flucht" followed. The recordings were made in Germany in collaboration with Andreas Kopp and were published via WMMS Records. While some critics criticized the rather poor production, Rock Hard assessed the music extremely positively and attested the band an independent mix of styles of rock, metal and psychedelic. In the following years the first differences within the band became noticeable. Especially through the technical progress of drummer Little, there were new musical possibilities, which were not seen as positive by all band members.

In 1998, despite internal tensions, the band released the album "Fastest Trip To Cyber-Town". The work was mixed by Stuart Bruce in the "Real World Studios" in Batheaston, England and released on the band's own label King Pest Records. For the first time instruments such as cello, didgeridoo, saxophone or keyboard as well as samples and loops programmed by Little were found in the sound of the band. The music on "Fastest Trip To Cyber-Town" was once again praised for being very independent.

Despite the success, the personal and musical differences were insurmountable in 1999 and Rene left the band. Together with Hans Bertschler, the keyboard player on Fastest Trip to Cyber-Town, the remaining musicians wrote other songs and played concerts here and there.

In 2001 this path was no longer feasible and the band broke up. In the following eight years, the band members had almost no contact with each other and worked on various projects, but sometimes also said goodbye to the music world.

In 2009 Rene started composing songs again, which he first sent to singer Mario Prünster. Both he and bassist Mötle were enthusiastic about the new material and the idea of a reunion. Drummer Little, however, lacked the necessary time, mainly due to the work in his "Little Big Beat Studios", to return to Mayfair with full commitment. With the long-time band roadie Roland "Jolly" Mähr, however, a replacement was quickly found. At the beginning of 2012 old conflicts flared up again and Mötle left the band. The preferred candidate of the remaining musicians for the now vacant post of bassist was Johannes Leierer, who completed the band again. Just six weeks after joining, Mayfair gave its first concert with the new line-up. In the same year Mayfair played concerts in Greece, Italy and Austria, where new material was already performed. Pure Prog Records offered the band to release the first album "Behind" on vinyl (November 2012) and as a double digipack together with previously unreleased material (April 2013).

In November 2013 the album "Schlage mein Herz, schlage ...", recorded with Lorenz Häusle in the Lorenz Phon Hertz Studios, was released again in collaboration with Pure Prog Records. The response to the album and the concerts that followed were consistently positive.

The fifth album is called "my ghosts inside" and was recorded together with Thomas Koch and Sirius D.Raze, released in April 2016 via Pure Prog Records and presented at a joint concert with Kenn Nardi ( Anacrusis ) in Feldkirch. This album earned Mayfair a 2017 Amadeus Austrian Music Awards nomination in the "Hard & Heavy" category. In September 2017, bassist Johannes Leierer left the band for personal and musical reasons.
