Maylandia lombardoi ( Syn .: Pseudotropheus lombardoi (also known in the trade as Pseudotropheus liliancinius )) is a cichlid from Africa , which was discovered by Burgess in 1982. The fish was named in honor of the American importer John Lombardo .

Occurrence and habitat

Maylandia lombardoi is endemic . He lives on the shores of Lake Malawi and the steep coast of the Mbenji Islands . The water temperature is 24–28 ° C. In addition, the water is slightly basic ( pH 7.5–8.0).

features

The length of the fish is approx. 12 cm. The male is yellow and has one or more "egg spots" on the anal fin . The female is striped light blue and black (across). In addition, the female does not have an "egg spot" on the anal fin.

Sexual Behavior and Brood

The female lays her eggs, which she puts in her mouth immediately after fertilization and incubates there for about four weeks (mouth brooders ). After this incubation period , the young animals leave their mouths.

Keeping as ornamental and farmed fish

Maylandia lombardoi is kept as an ornamental fish in Europe . It should be ensured that there is enough space available (approx. 500 l). In addition, the fish is aggressive towards other species, so it should not be kept in community tanks (exception: other African sea cichlids ).
