In the north the district borders on the Zvishavane district, in the east on the Chivi district, in the south on the Mwenezi and Gwanda districts and in the west on the Insiza district.

The Vanguard Mine is located in the district. In addition to a police station, the Mberengwa District Hospital is also located in Mberengwa. The surrounding area is completely agricultural and was previously worked on by some large estates. To the south, within the Masvingo Province on the Mwenezi River in the Mwenezi District, is the Manyuchi Dam , which enables irrigation, cattle watering, household supplies, fish farming and brick production. But as everywhere in rural Zimbabwe, this region has been affected by hunger, malnutrition and increasing impoverishment since the land reform.
