Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) is the state statistical agency of Zimbabwe . The headquarters of this institution is located in the Kaguvi Building in Harare . 10 regional branch offices are maintained.
Legal basis
The main legal basis for the Zimbabwe Statistics Authority is the Census and Statistics Act of 2007 ( Act No. 1/2007 ). It defines the tasks of the authority.
structure
The statistical authority of Zimbabwe is controlled and organized by an administrative board. Management is exercised by a Director-General , who, in accordance with section 9 of the Census and Statistics Act , must be appointed by the Board of Directors and approved by the responsible minister. The person in the role of Director General must be a Zimbabwean citizen.
In addition to the headquarters and the 10 branch offices, there is the Central Census Office (CCO), which is also based in Harare.
The five main departments of ZIMSTAT are:
- Population Census (census)
- Social Statistics (social statistics)
- Income Analysis (income ratios)
- Production Statistics (production statistics)
- Corporate Services (common services)
There are also five departments that report directly to the Director-General's office . These are the areas:
- Quality Assurance (quality assurance)
- Methodology (Methodology)
- NSS Coordination (coordination of the National Statistics System)
- Public Affairs and Legal Services (public relations and legal department)
- Internal Audit (revision)
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency operates branch offices in the provincial administrations .

- Mashonaland West , in Chinhoyi

tasks
The tasks of the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) include the determination and analysis of official data on demographic, economic, fiscal, environmental and social issues as well as on factual issues at national, provincial or local level. The agency compiles the data it has collected and evaluates it according to statistical standards and procedures.
ZIMSTAT is the main source for official statistical statements in Zimbabwe. It is also equipped with coordinating and controlling competencies within the National Statistical System .
ZIMSTAT works on the basis of the UN - Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and the AU - African Charter on Statistics .
