McLean Island is an island off the Budd coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . In the group of the Balaena Islands , it is 0.2 km south of Thompson Island .
The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named them after Nigel McLean (1922-2001), flight captain of the factory ship Balaena for mapping the Budd and Knox coasts .
