McLeod Island is a large island in Prydz Bay on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elisabeth Land in East Antarctica . It is located 2 km north of the Stornes peninsula and immediately west of the Larsemann Hills .
Norwegian cartographers mapped it in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen Expedition 1936/37 and named it as Kollen ( Norwegian for hill ). The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it in 1988 after Ian Roderick McLeod (* 1931), who led ANARE teams in 1969 and 1970 to geological exploration of the Prince Charles Mountains.
