McPlanet.com was an environmental congress that was critical of globalization and was organized by Attac , Bread for the World , BUND , EED , Forum Environment and Development , Greenpeace , Heinrich Böll Foundation and terre des hommes . As a platform for learning and debate, the congress wants to make a contribution to a more just and ecologically sustainable world. Congresses took place in 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2012 in Berlin and 2005 in Hamburg. The congresses had between 1500 and 2000 participants.

Content aspects and concept

According to the program, the conference combines the debates on globalization , justice and environmental protection , offers a “platform for learning, questions and arguments” and thus wants to make a contribution to making the world fairer and more ecologically sustainable. McPlanet is considered an important event for globalization critics and the environmental movement .

The titles of the event were:

  • 2003: The environment in the globalization trap, Berlin
  • 2005: Consumption, Globalization and Environment, Hamburg
  • 2007: Climate of Justice, Berlin
  • 2009: Game Over? Restart! on alternatives and ways out of the crisis, Berlin
  • 2012: Too big to fail on the green economy and as a critical accompaniment to Rio 2012 , Berlin

In 2012, panels with international speakers, smaller forums (panel discussions), workshops , a cultural program , a room for discussions (Café Activista) and information stands were offered.

Effects

Ulrich Brand saw the congresses as an important prerequisite for the successful International Degrowth Conference 2014 in Leipzig.
