The Mdloti River (also: Umdloti River ) is a South African body of water in the province of KwaZulu-Natal .

The river flows through its largely mountainous catchment area in a strongly meandering manner and flows into the Indian Ocean at Verulam and south of King Shaka International Airport .
The estuary area is called La Mercy Lagoon . The estuary is separated from the Indian Ocean by a sandbank , which forms a natural barrier to the salty sea water . The water management use is in the area of Umgeni Water (UW).
