Umgeni Water
Umgeni Water ( SOE ) is a holding company for the public water supply and wastewater treatment in an area (21,155 square kilometers) in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . To fulfill this mandate, she holds all shares in Umgeni Water Services SOC Ltd. and Msinsi Holdings SOC Ltd.
The administrative headquarters of Umgeni Water is located in Pietermaritzburg . There are two other regional main offices in Ulwandle (coastal region) and in Izintaba (inland region); also other smaller branches. Umgeni Water was founded in 1974 and received by Proclamation No. 114 of 1974 its own legal basis.
In the north the supply area borders on the Thukela River , in the south on the Mtamvuna River , in the west on the Drakensberg and in the east it ends at the Indian Ocean . To fulfill the company's purpose, 746 kilometers of pipelines and 13 dams are in use. Five of them are operated for the highest water authority DWAF and three for the district municipality of Ugu . In addition, 11 water treatment plants are maintained, two of which are provided for the district community of Ugu. There are also 18 small sewage treatment plants and 19 wells for regional water supply in the iLembe district .

Currently (2019) 440 million cubic meters of drinking water are produced, which corresponds to a daily amount of 1159 megaliters. This supplies around 6.1 million people or 1.68 million households.
