Me-gumi no Daigo

Me-gumi no Daigo ( Japanese め 組 の 大 吾 , eng. "Daigo from Trupp M [e]") is a manga by the Japanese illustrator Masahito Soda , which appeared from 1995 on. The comic was also implemented as a film and television series and received the 1997 Shogakukan Manga Prize in the Shōnen category .

Since Daigo Asahina's life was saved by a firefighter as a young child, he has also wanted to be a firefighter. When he was 18, he began training with the Medaka-Ga-Hama fire department in Sengoku . So he comes to the fire brigade believing that he already knows everything about fire fighting , but has to learn that there is still a lot to learn. He is supported by his former teacher, Ms. Ochiai, who treats him like a younger brother. However, Daigo has fallen in love with her. At the same time, he has a rival in Shiro Amakasu from the Kujiradai fire department.

publication

The manga was published from 1995 to 1999 in the manga magazine Shōnen Sunday by the Shogakukan publishing house in Japan. The individual chapters were later published in 20 edited volumes.

The series was published by Kabuto in France and by Viz Media in the USA.

Adaptations

Movie

In 1999 the Sunrise studio produced an anime film on the manga, directed by Susumu Nishizawa . The character design was created by Hideyuki Motohashi and the music was composed by Shiroh Hamaguchi . The credits song Red Darkness was written by Hiroshi Kitadani. The 45-minute film was released in Japanese cinemas on January 22, 2000 under the title Me-gumi no Daigo .

Television series

From January 6th to March 16th, 2004 the broadcaster Fuji TV broadcast an eleven-part television series on the manga. Directed by Go Shichitaka, Take Narita, Hirosuke Mitake, Taro Kinoshita, Osamu Yonekawa and Ryōichi Tanaka.
