Meadowburn was a whiskey distillery in Campbeltown , Kintyre , Argyll and Bute , Scotland . The brandy produced was therefore assigned to the Campbeltown whiskey region .

history

The distillery is said to have been founded by Alexander Kirkwood in Campbeltown in 1824, the same year as Dalaruan , Longrow and Lochhead . After several changes of ownership, it came into the hands of Robert Colvill & Co. in 1852 , who managed it securely until 1882. The distillery was probably closed permanently in 1886. When Alfred Barnard visited Campbeltown as part of his important whiskey tour in 1886, the company was certainly no longer active, which is why no detailed descriptions of the distillery have survived. The buildings have meanwhile been demolished. Directly next to the former Meadowburn distillery was Burnside, another whiskey distillery, on the bottom of which the Campbeltown Creamery can be found today. The company's parking lot and a private home are located on the grounds of the Meadowburn Distillery.
