history

The Mecanică Fină Bucureşti was founded in 1978 in Bucharest , and existed in the form until 2000. It was the only watch manufacturer based in Romania . Mainly mechanical watches with hand-wound, automatic and quartz movements were produced .

Mecanică Fină SA went public on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in 2015 . The listing was in the Main stock exchange segment , the ticker symbol is MECE.

Products

Orex was the internationally best-known watch brand from Mecanică Fină Bucureşti . The name Orex is a combination of the Romanian words “Oră” (hour) and “exactă” (exact / exact).

The production of Orex military watches was decided on the occasion of a visit by Nicolae Ceaușescu on December 26, 1978 in Bucharest. The first 50,000 Orex watches were shipped in December 1980 . The planned target for the following years was 200,000 units per year and from 1990 1 million units per year.

In addition to Orex watches that offered Mecanica Fina Bucureşti also watches the trademarks Optimef and Cromef on the market, with the Optimef watches (only quartz watches with digital display) in cooperation with Intreprinderea Optica Romana emerged (IOR). The Cromef was a quartz watch with a "step-by-step" motor and analog display , and in 1985 represented an intermediate stage.
