Mecca Cola

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mecca-Cola is a Cola brand that was launched by French Muslims to give all sympathizers the opportunity to drink Cola without supporting a US company. According to the initiators, the fight against the negative effects of globalization should be supported and against the "oppression" of the Arab countries by the USA. The label of the bottles is deliberately kept in the style of the American competition (red with white lettering) to underline the message.

Tawfik Mathlouthi, a Frenchman of Tunisian origin, is considered the inventor of Mecca-Cola . Mecca-Cola literally wants to fight against the “idiotization” caused by drinking Coca-Cola (the slogan: Ne buvez plus idiot, buvez engagé , in German don't drink stupidly, drink enthusiastically! ) And fight for a free Palestine . According to the company, 10% of the proceeds go to Palestinian children and a further 10% to local charitable organizations. Mecca-Cola describes actions of the Israeli government as “ Zionist - fascist ” and condemns them harshly.

Not least because of its name, which is of course deliberately based on Mecca , the holiest place in Islam, Mecca-Cola has successfully established itself in large parts of the Arab world . For example, Mecca-Cola Classic has been available in the Palestinian Territories since 2002 . Especially in the course of the Iraq war , Mecca-Cola also gained popularity in Europe , especially in France . However, the product has occasionally come under criticism because some Islamic clergy take it as an insult to their belief that the name Mecca is "misused" as a means of advertising .
