Mechanical Moth is a Darmstadt band that was founded in 2002 by Tandrin under the name Projekt Rosenhöhe.

Band history

From its foundation in 2002 until today, Mechanical Moth's music has combined elements from many areas. In the same year Mechanical Moth was completed by the singer Matricide. In 2004 the band released the first album of the planned Deus-Ex-Machina trilogy on the Dark Dimensions label. Mechanical Moth gave their live debut as support for the band Untoten on November 25, 2004 in Rind in Rüsselsheim. Due to time constraints, Mechanical Moth's live band line-up was reduced from four to two people.

The second album "Torment" was released for the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2005, on which Mechanical Moth made an appearance. The song “Flügelschlag” contained on it is included on the festival sampler. With the new album, Mechanical Moth's first music video also appeared, also under the title "Torment". At the end of 2005, the band's live line-up broke up completely. The result was a fully electronic live performance with vocals.

At the end of 2005, the singer Salacity joined the band and also participated with three songs on the last part of the trilogy. The album “The Sad Machina” was released in 2007. This time there was also a music video for the song “Time”. After completing the Deus Ex Machina trilogy, Matricide left the band.

For the next album "Rebirth", the duo decided in early 2008 to work with the singer Ivy, who had previously acted as a singer in a rock side project of Tandrin (Spirit of D.). Ivy brought in a changed singing style and a voice that was untypical for Mechanical Moth. Other musicians such as Max ( Chamber ) or Massimo (Ellipse, industrial area) were involved as guests.

In 2009 the album and a music video for "Black Queen Style" were released. After "Rebirth" Ivy left Mechanical Moth and switched to Stratoscope. The singer Sophie joined the band in 2011, and the album "Infinity" was released a year later.

style

Mechanical Moth have been compared to L'Âme Immortelle for a long time. Tandrin mainly arranges electronic music at a medium tempo with an emphasis on catchiness and danceability borrowed from pop . On the other hand, he sees a limited complexity in his music, which he considers just as significant for the musical concept of the band.

“Well, Motte is definitely something for the anonymous listeners to music with a brain. These don't exactly affect the floors at the moment (I haven't heard from Silke Bischoff anywhere in ages , unless I hang up ...), but there is also something for the BumBum faction. This rating was not meant to be negative either. There is music with so much brain sausage that it makes me sick. Volume and aggressiveness also have their aesthetics. One of my current favs is z. B. Stage 2 of " X-rX " [Sic!]. But almost nobody hears that at home all the time. "
