Sparkadia is an Australian alternative rock - band . It was founded in Sydney in 2004 and currently consists of front singer and guitarist Alex Burnett, guitarist and singer Tiffany Preece, bassist and singer Nick Rabone, and drummer David Hall. The band had their first commercial success with their debut album Postcards, which was placed at number 23 on the ARIA album charts.

history

The band was formed in Annandale (Sydney) and was initially a project between lead singer Alex Burnett and drummer David Hall. The collaboration between the two was not considered particularly serious until Jamie Davis of UK label Ark Recordings heard their music at a friend's wedding. Burnett described signing the deal with the label as "He basically signed us because of the songs and the mood. He hadn't even seen us live" as a "fantastic story". They got even more attention when Davis played some of their demo songs to Ben Hillier, co-producer of British indie rock band Elbow's second album , Cast of Thousands , whereupon Hillier agreed to produce the band's debut album.

In Australia they first became known with their debut EP called Things Behind the Sun , which was released on February 20, 2007. Since then they have played with Death Cab for Cutie , Ben Lee , The Bravery and Tegan & Sara and toured with The Thrills , Jimmy Eat World and Vampire Weekend .

Sparkadia's debut studio album Postcards was released on May 31, 2008 and reached number 23 on the Australian album charts.

In 2006 the song Falling Down appeared on a compilation CD as a feature for the Australian music magazine Mess + Noise in the third edition, but the song was not re-released.
