The Thrills is a contemporary Irish band playing sixties California-influenced guitar pop. Musically they were influenced by Neil Young and The Byrds, among others .
history
Daniel Ryan and Conor Deasy grew up as neighbors in Dublin and have been friends since childhood. Together they discovered their love for football and music. When they were ten, they both got their first guitar as a gift; five years later they decided to form a band . Kevin Horan went to school with Conor Deasy, Ben Carrigan and Deasy met at the music school . Padraic McMahon joined them a little later. Since then, around 1996, there has been no more line-up.
When they finished school in 1999, they decided to go to California , where they lived in a beach hut. They took this mood back to Ireland four months later. Soon afterwards they got an offer from the music label Supremo , and in 2001 they signed their first record deal , which was terminated after a short time. The five were not discouraged, looked for a new manager and recorded new demos . Suddenly, several record companies seemed interested in the band and they eventually signed a deal with Virgin Music .
Before they even signed the contract, The Smiths- Frontman Morrissey paid the Thrills a visit to their rehearsal room and offered them to be on his US tour. In September 2002 the Thrills first appeared as the opening act for Morrissey in the Royal Albert Hall .
Shortly afterwards the band flew to the USA again to record their first album So Much For The City . The CD had some success (the New York Times even named it the second best album of the year). The debut album rose from 0 to 3 in the charts in Great Britain , and even to number 1 in Ireland. Their second album Let's Bottle Bohemia recorded the Thrills in 2004 with producer Dave Sardy .
The Thrills have now made 170 appearances.
