The mechanic for agricultural and construction machinery has been a state-recognized training occupation in Germany since 2004 in accordance with the Vocational Training Act and the Crafts Code . In Austria the apprenticeship is called agricultural and construction machinery technology.

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a mechanic for agricultural and construction machinery is usually three and a half years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . history

The profession originally started in 2003 with the job title “Mechanic for Agricultural Machinery” to replace the outdated apprenticeship as agricultural machinery mechanic from 1989. However, since the manufacturers and workshops of construction machinery did not find themselves in this job title, the job title was changed on August 16, 2004 to "Mechanic for agricultural and construction machinery" (see Federal Law Gazette Part I. No. 44 p. 2193 of 24. August 2004). The text of the ordinance from 2003 provided for a traditional intermediate examination as well as a conventional final examination in which the extended final examination was tested by means of a trial ordinance . In 2008 the trial was made permanent.
