from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mechthild Maria Groß (* 1964 in Fulda ) is the first midwife in Germany to qualify as a habilitation . She is currently in charge of the first (and to date only) master’s course in midwifery science in Germany , which she was instrumental in establishing.

Life

Mechthild Maria Groß began her professional career as a nurse . She then began studying psychology , which she interrupted in 1989 for midwifery training in Tübingen and only finished afterwards. Even during her professional career, she was interested in securing scientific work as a midwife. From 1989 to 2007 she led the annual research workshop on midwifery research. She then continued her studies and did her doctorate in 2000 at the University of Bremen on the subject of "Birth as a Process". She then started working at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) in the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics. There she founded the AG Midwifery Science. At the MHH, she heads the European Master’s course in Midwifery Science , which is unique as such and, as a non-consecutive course, is subject to fees.

In 2010 she completed her habilitation at the MHH . Her habilitation thesis was entitled The Self-Diagnosis of the Beginning of Birth: Subjective empiricism, perinatal care factors and basic biochemical research in discourse . In 2015 she became an adjunct professor .
