Mechupda
The Mechupda are a tribe of the Maidu , an indigenous people in California . They belong to the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria , a tribe recognized by federal law. Historically, the Konkow tribe spoke , which is one of the Maidu languages . Since 2010, members of the Mechupda have been creating digital learning materials that go back to old recordings from the 1940s during the war effort by Emma Cooper.
The center of tribal life was formerly a village, about 5.6 km south of today's Chico (California) . The tribe was disbanded in 1967 when it lost its 10.5 hectare Chico Rancheria. Today California State University, Chico (CSUC) owns about half of the former rancheria site. The approximately 4.5 hectare area of the former reservation is used by agriculture, anthropology and archeology students of the CSUC.
The Mechupda achieved re-recognition through federal law in 1992.

The Mechupda ratified a constitution on February 1, 1998. The tribe is governed by a council of seven members. Today's administration consists of:

The Chico Rancheria is located in Butte County . There are about 70 residents of the rancheria . Chico is the closest town.
